Mothers are without a doubt, the backbone of the child’s sports dreams and passion. They ferry the kids from one place to another, they pack snacks for their kids and the rest of the team and are always standing on the side egging the kids on to play better or run faster.

But seriously, why should kids have all the fun?! The tables have turned for Noida and Gurugram moms. In Noida, we have two mothers who are part of the parent’s soccer league which primarily comprises mostly of fathers. And in Gurguram, Kunskapsskolan International organised a Mother of All- Sports day in collaboration with Gurgaon Moms where mothers participated in a number of sporting events with the Mom’s Kabbadi League being the highlight.

In Noida

The children’s football league matches have just ended across Delhi-NCR. They didn’t want the fun to end, so they decided to form a football league for parents. There are five enthusiastic teams participating in the Noida Parents League. What makes this football league special is that one of the teams has two mothers playing in it.

Sitting on the sidelines and encouraging their kids through the various practice sessions and matches every weekend for three months inspired Divya Vij and Kamakshi Narula to take on this challenge. The fathers on the team roped in these ladies to try a hand at this fast paced sport. Being taught how to chip or give a header, these mothers are now at the receiving end of instructions from their coach and their kids. Super proud of their moms, their kids were overheard boasting about it to their friends. As Divya says,

Playing whatever little bit of the game reminds us how much we miss playing a sport. We just don’t take out time from our busy lives to do so. The kids are excited about the mothers playing, but also had a hearty laugh looking at us in our soccer jerseys and long shorts.

Dressed in blue unknown FC numbered jerseys these two women played their first match against an all boys team and won. Aching and bruised, they were happy to be out on the field having some fun. Three cheers for these enthusiastic women!

Kunskapsskolan International in association with Gurgaon Moms organised a one of a kind sports day for Mothers. Aptly named, Mother of All – Sports Day, it had a 100 Gurugram mothers participated in the events. They had everything ranging from squash, archery, cricket, soccer, tennis, badminton, basketball to kabaddi.

Since moms rarely get time to let down their hair and have some fun, the Sports Day aimed at doing just that. Kunskapsskolan International wanted to bring together all Gurugram moms for some fitness fun. They are hoping to make this an annual event.

Aise Dhaakad Hai!

The Dangal fever seems to have gripped the Gurugram moms as well. The Moms Kabbadi event was quite a hit with children and other moms encouraging the teams not to lose heart and win. The mothers who participated were extremely enthusiastic about taking on this sport. The kids were supporting everyone and were thrilled to see their moms having a great time. Moyna Rana, a Sector 49 Gurugram resident says,

The kabaddi match reminded me of my school days because I was in my school’s kabaddi team. My daughter was also here so she got a little worried when I fell, but that’s part of the game.

Women in Delhi-NCR are making waves and we’re just loving it. We look forward to seeing more action from the residents here in Delhi. Are you moms, ready for the game?!
