As a mum of two, I'm constantly trying to think of things to give the kids in their tiffin box. They get pretty hungry on the bus back and giving them a healthy bite to tide them over is a good idea. One of the healthy bus snacks I include in their tiffin box is Gol Papdi.
Gol Papdi is a healthy bite of yumminess that has the goodness of gur and wheat flour (atta) and is made in mostly Gujarati households. Today's recipe is straight from the Zaveri household where Grandma Jyoti Zaveri lets us in on a secret ingredient she includes in her Gol Papdi to make it tasty and healthy for her grandkids. She uses goond in her Gol Papdi. Goond or edible gum is extremely healthy for the bones.
After I delivered both my babies, my mother made sure that I ate at least one piece of Gol Papdi every day. The health benefits of the ingredients - ghee, gur and goond - make it the right kind of snack to have when your body is still recovering from the efFects of labour.
Watch the video and see how she makes the Gol Papdi. If you have your grandmom's special recipe that you make for your kids, please send it to us. We would love to include it in our series. Grandma does know best after all!
